'Tis the season

'Tis the season

Hello everyone,

I know the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop 2013 is over for another year but I just had to show this card.
I loved Laura Bassen's technique so much in Day 3 of class that I just had to try my hand at another plaid card as was her example in Day 5 of His and Hers cards.
Laura showed us how to create this card using a stencil and inks.
I unfortunately did not have a diagonal strip stencil so I laid down strips of Eclipse masking paper.
I must say that it was a little tedious and probably took me about an hour or more to lay down the strips but I think the result speaks for itself.
I applied all the strips one way, added Festive Berries distress ink, pulled the strips off and then laid down the opposite diagonal strips and used Pine Needles distress ink. When all was complete I thought that maybe I should have applied the ink a little heavier but this was the effect that I achieved.
Well you can imagine that I have added a diagonal stencil to my wish list.
Anyways thanks for stopping by and hope you like my card.

Happy holidays

Hi everyone,
This card is for the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop 2013.
The talented Debby Hughes did a beautiful snowflake card but I decided to change it up a little and did use the paste embossing technique.
I started with the Aspen Trees stencil from The Crafters Workshop and applied a nice even coverage of paste.
The little birdies were die cut from The Memory Box resting birds set.
I used Wink of Stella on the 2 little birdies and silver embossed the larger birdie a few times to add even more volume to the bird. Just keep dunking it in the embossing powder while the powder is still hot. It gives a very nice even full coverage.
I didn't have a nice little curvy sentiment so I actually used a sticker and fussy cut it out.
Added some Hero Arts clear gemstones to the card and there you have it.
Thanks Debby!
I love this paste embossing technique as the results are amazing.
Thanks for having a look and I do appreciate your comments.

'Tis the Season for...

One of the ideas in the current challenge at Hero Arts is to use one of your favourite things.
I chose to do a card using watercolour with distress inks. I love watercolour anything!
I actually applied the inks first to watercolour paper and then I embossed the snowflake in white over the inked background.
I used an embossing folder for the card base, added the strip panel and snowflake
The sentiment is continued on the inside with the word Magic.
I actually bought this stamp set (16 stamps in total) from a dollar store for $2.75. Quite a find I think.
Thanks for stopping by!
